ABOUT ME
Kokoro
My name is Kokoro which means “Heart”in Japanese. I’m a native of Osaka, Japan but now live with my family in Brisbane, Australia. I started out creating name translations in Japanese Kanji at Sunday markets on the Gold Coast in 2009. It was a fun way to meet people and to practice my calligraphy. I loved seeing the wonder in people’s faces as they saw their names transcribed into Japanese Kanji. Most people had never associated their names with any real meaning beyond a name. For many people it was a profound moment when they realised that not only could their name be written in Japanese but by writing it in kanji, their names took on the meaning of the kanji. I found experiencing these beautiful moments with people both moving and deeply satisfying. I have created custom name translations for many of the people in my life since then for birthdays, Christmas cards, weddings or just to say “thank you”. It’s been these people who have encouraged me to take the next step in my journey and finally turn my hobby into my own business. Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far.
